sandusky. >> the 68-year-old sandusky maintains his innocence following his conviction earlier this year on child sex abuse charges. kristin fisher joins us live with more on what's expected in court later today. >> reporter: good morning. jerry sandusky did not testify at his june trial but he is expected to speak at today's sentencing and he's expected to proclaim his innocence. in fact, yesterday sandusky even called in to the penn state radio station from his jail cell to essentially give a preview of what he's expected to say in court this morning. here's part of that recording. >> they can take away my life. they came make me out as a monster. they can treat me as a monster but they can't take away my heart. in my heart i know i did not do these alleged disgusting acts. >> reporter: former assistant football coach has already been convicted on 45 counts of child sex abuse. but sandusky says he want as new trial. he says the judge denied his legal time adequate time to

mount a defense. he's also accusing one of his victims of essentially making the whole thing up. >> a young man who is dramatic, a veteran accuser and always sought attention started everything. he was joined by a well orchestrated effort of the media, investigators, the system, penn state, psychologists, civil attorneys and other accusers. >> reporter: about six of sandusky's victims are expected to testify or exe in court today at the -- or speak in court today at the sentencing. he's facing a minimum of ten years, a maximum of 400 years in prison. even his own attorneys are expecting a very harsh sentence. i'll let you know what they think their best case scenario is for their client coming up in half an hour at 6:30. >> kristin fisher reporting live from our satellite center. we have encouraging news about redskins quarterback robert griffin iii. coach shanahan is optimistic he will play sunday against

minnesota despite suffering a concussion. griffin took a hit that shook the redskins nation. knocked out of the game in the third quarter of sunday's loss to atlanta. the diagnosis? a mild concussion and he needed some stitches. he has been undergoing tests and doctors will monitor him throughout the week. but coach shanahan says things are looking up. >> he's feeling good. no dizziness, no headaches, no vomiting. he feels like he's done well on the tests he's taken thus far. >> he will undergo a tread mi test -- treadmill test later today. if there are any setbacks other cousins or rex grossman will get the start on sunday. the washington nationals are preparing for their first home playoff game after really taking one on the chin in st. louis yesterday. jordan zimmerman got the start despite being 0-5 against the carpds in the regular season -- cards in the regular season. the bad luck continued in the post-season as well. he lasted three innings, gave up seven hits and five runs.

the nats shovelled through -- shuffled through seven pitchers to get the job done. the cardinals crushed the nats 12-4 tying the series at one game a piece. the number of people sickened by the deadly meningitis outbreak has now reached 105. eight people have died. most of the cases are in virginia, tennessee, and michigan. there are also cases in maryland. doctors expect the numbers to grow over the next few weeks. all the patients got fun gal meningitis from tainted steroid injections for back pain. >> that period of time from the exposure, the inoculation to the onset of symptoms can be quite prolonged, up to a month and maybe even a little bit longer. >> symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness and feemp. doctors say -- and fever. doctors say this form of meningitis is not contagious. it's 6:06. jessica doyle is here with another your money report. good morning. >> good morning. we have big development news in

montgomery county to the tune of $100 million. that's pretty big. that development could soon have the bulldozers back in action around rockville town center. montgomery county executive ike leggett just announced plans for a new choice hotel across from regal cinemas. >> this is an exciting time for rockville. it is an exciting time for montgomery county. we are delighted to have choice here and the expansion by its hotel and its headquarters. this will be a synergy of economic development tied to the ongoing development in the investment of the county -- investment the county and city have made over the last several years. >> it's aimed at spurring economic growth. leggett is saying the development will generate over $10 million for the county. wal-mart and american express teaming up on a new reloadable prepaid card. it's called blue bird and it offers no minimum balance and no monthly annual or overdraft

beating banser. throughout this morning you've been hearing from survivors but our next guest believes the conversation about breast cancer kneads to change -- needs breast cancer coalition and a 25-year breast cancer survivor. >> yes. >> congratulations on that, fran. >> thank you. >> you have said and this is a pretty provocative statement that october breast cancer awareness month may be hazardous to a woman's health. people would be surprised that as a survivor you're saying that. why? >> the message is often too simple. we try to reduce breast cancer to sound bite and breast cancer is a very complex issue and disease. we really haven't made a great deal of progress in breast cancer. we need to focus on that, be aware of that and figure out how to change it. >> what should the conversation be? we report on new treatments,

new technologies. what should we be saying in this conversation that's going to make a difference? >> we need to talk about how we can end breast cancer, how to stop women from getting breast cancer to begin with, how to stop the spread of breast cancer. primary breast cancer is not what kills women. it's the spread of breast cancer to other organs, ma metasis. stop women from getting it to begin with and stop them from dying. >> aren't we doing that? we're raising billions of dollars around the globe looking for the research that will lead to the treatment that will prevent this disease. >> actually we're not looking very much in terms of preventing breast cancer. primary proconvention. how do we intervene in a healthy population. so women do not have to worry about tossic drugs.

they don't have to worry about ma taste take sis. part of our deadline campaign, one of the two areas of focus is primary prevention. >> 2020 ised deadline you said -- is the deadline you said. is it achievable and what happens if we don't reach that on january 2, 2020? >> well, it is achievable. it's going to take a lot of hard work. it's not just the campaign. we have a blueprint and a plan of action on how to get there. we design add collaboration, brought together a collaboration to look at a preventive vaccine in cancer. we're looking at the issue of how to stop spreading. it's achievable. we need the conversation. we need everyone involved to focus on that deadline. we're just not going to accept failure. we already have accepted failure actually when you think about the fact that 40,000 women still die every year in this country alone of breast

actually went and had the lump removed, it turned out to be cancerous. so this whole idea about raising consciousness and women taking their health into their own hands became vital for me. i also want to say for those of you who may be watching october 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the d.c. council, we'll be presenting a resolution on behalf of breast cancer month. all those are invited to come or watch on channel 13. congratulations, andrea. thank you very much.

sandusky's attorneys describes his client on the eve of his sentencing. >> he's in an upbeat mood. he wants to move on with this case so he can appeal. he's really been upbeat, surprisingly upbeat knowing what he's facing with a lengthy sentence likely to come tomorrow. >> reporter: yesterday you can see as crews covered the back bans to the courthouse to -- bans to the courthouse to -- entrance to the courthouse to shield the victims expected to testify. about six are expected to testify at today's sentencing starting at 9:00 a.m. expect to hear a state assessment board to report on whether it deems sandusky a violent sexual predator. if so he would have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life. that is of course if he ever gets out of prison. >> coming later today, andrea mccarren will be live with the latest on the court proceedings. grief counsers will be available to students and staff at woodson high school after a search for a missing fairfax

county teenager ends tragically yesterday. a search team found the body of 17-year-old bryan glenn at thaiss park yesterday. no word yet from police on whether or not this was an apparent suicide or case ever foul play. bryan had been missing for a week. he was last seen at his school. in campaign 2012, a new poll is out and it shows mitt romney is ahead in the race for president following last week's debate. according to the research center, 49% of likely voters favor romney while only 45% like president obama. just last month romney trailed obama by nine points. now he's pulled ahead. governor romney told cadets at the virginia military institute he'll strengthen america's defense as commander in chief. he says president obama has failed to lead on the world stage, especially in the middle east. >> it's clear that the risk of conflict in the region is higher now than when the president took office. >> governor romney said he would work to stabilize the new

governments in libya and egypt and help armed syrian rebels trying to overthrow the assad regime. voters favor president obama when it comes to foreign policy. >> we'll sustain the strongest military the world has ever known. >> neither of the presidential candidates nor their running mates served in the military. this is the first election where that's happened in 80 years. 6:36 now. republican george allen and democrat tim kaine squared off in a debate last night. both men hoping to become virginia's next junior senator. throughout the debate, they each took shots at the other's past performance as governor. when it came to washington, they agreed on one thing. each believe they can fix what's wrong with congress. >> frankly we have a ball and chain and that's congress. congress is holds us back. what we need to do is change congress, especially in two ways. we need people who are more fiscally responsible and we need more people who know frankly the basics about how to
